Description

Koshun Sencha is a single-origin green tea from Shizuoka prefecture in Japan. It is unique as it has an almost “oolong tea” like floral and herbal notes, unlike a traditional Japanese Sencha.

Koshun Sencha is a delightful hand-crafted tea made with much attention and care by passionate tea craftsmen. Once picked, the leaves are lightly oxidized (which brings out an oolong note) and then delicately steamed before being dried. It is a high-class and special sencha that is umami-rich, sweet, with a fresh “herbs” character and has a slightly astringent finish. Multiple infusions allow for full exploration of the tea, and draw out further astringent notes.

Koshun sencha oolong tea is actually very similar to regular sencha green tea, but with a bit of a floral oolong taste mixed in. It's sightly reminiscent of baozhong (aka pouchong) tea which is also very lightly oxidized (so much so that different people will call it a type of green tea, a "green oolong", or a category of it's own). In a way it's like the sencha version of baozhong tea. That's something everyone should keep in mind when approaching this tea or they may be disappointed at how little it resembles standard oolong teas.
