Imperial Ren Shen Ginseng Oolong – Sweet Ginseng-Coated Oolong

Imperial Ren Shen Ginseng Oolong, also known as Lady Orchid, is an invigorating blend of high-quality oxidized oolong tea enveloped in ginseng and Chinese xiang cao, often called "Chinese vanilla." The tightly rolled oolong pellets are coated in a fine layer of ginseng and licorice-like herbs, giving them their distinctive appearance and naturally sweet taste.

Ginseng has been valued for centuries in Chinese tea culture. This bold, strong drink is traditionally enjoyed throughout the day. The sweet Chinese vanilla softens the light bitterness of raw ginseng, creating a beautifully balanced cup.

Tasting Notes

  • Aroma: renowned orchid-like fragrance
  • Flavor: refreshing and velvety, with sweet ginseng
  • Development: smooth, grassy vanilla notes after a few infusions
  • Finish: a lingering, sweet aftertaste of Chinese vanilla

Why You'll Love It

  • Quality oolong with ginseng
  • Sweet Chinese vanilla (xiang cao)
  • Naturally sweet and velvety
  • Rewards multiple infusions

How to Enjoy

Brew it gongfu-style or in a teapot, and enjoy several infusions as the pellets unfurl and the vanilla notes develop. It's a lovely companion for work, study or an afternoon break.

We were trying to find an exact match for a Ren Shen my mom had from overseas and loved. This wasn't that, but I still like it very well. It's a bit greener than what we had before, and the "rocks" vary more in size with some being a fair bit larger.

The scent is pleasant and I've noticed that brewing this at different temps can get two distinctly different yet both good results, which is really cool! At lower temps it has a sort of freeze dried fruit scent and taste - apples, bananas, and pears. At higher temps it is like a warm spice cookie. You can pick the brewing process that best suits your mood, like two teas in one!

I never thought any oolong would be able to compete with the gaba oolong for my attention, but this one is exceptional. So delicious!

First good ginseng tea I've had. Built on a solid Oolong base, with a clear herbal Ginseng taste for the first 4 infusions, but the oolong flavor lasted for a total of 8 infusions.

I love this tea! Great aroma. It is bold with a gentle aftertaste. I can usually get 6-8 infusions from each teaspoon. Sometimes I add a couple hibiscus leaves for a special sweetness.
